I would like to say it’s definitely not true. There are a lot of Japanese authentic restaurants here in Akihabara. If you are anime lover who doesn’t want to move out from Akihabara, it’s also good idea to spend all day here, from breakfast to supper.

BREAKFAST

(1) The French Toast Factory Yodobashi Akiba

[source : http://www.french-toast-factory.jp/about/]

If you like to have late breakfast, like a brunch, why don’t you try The French Toast Factory? They open from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and the last order finishes at 10:30 p.m. This restaurant has a perfect location for people who want to start their day in Akihabara because here is located on the 8th floor of Yodobashi Akiba. I guess some of you can spend all day inside of Yodobashi Camera if you love electronics and anime figures.

The signiture menu here is french toast, of course, and Omurice, which means Omelet Rice in Japanese. Chiffon pancakes are also famous for its fluffy texture and various toppings. There are many different types of Omelet Rice as well, from cheese to minced beef. You can have more options such as salad or french fries.

Vie de France is a bakery which is recommended for people who want to have light meals. Vie de France opens from 7:00am to 10:30 pm so it’s also possible to have early breakfast. They have various types of breads from croissants to sandwiches. It’s also good to try Japanese style bread, such as croquets and curry-pans.

The interesting point of this bakery is that they also have menus for meals such as pasta and salad. This cafe, unlike other bakeries where sell bread only, has seats for having meals. It’s also allowed if you want to have bread with a cup of coffee inside here.

LUNCH

(1) Kyushu Jangara Ramen

Ramen is always correct. They open from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. so basically you can visit here whenever you want. The restaurant itself is very so neat and tidy that it’s easy to see people lining up in front of the store. English menu is prepared and the price usually costs below JPY 1000. The basic ramen starts with the price of JPY 630, and it goes up to JPY1230 with the topping you choose. Personally, my favorite topping is ajitama, which means boiled egg with flavor.

There are four different types of broth. The first one is Kyushu Jangara, which is mild tonkotsu(pork bones) broth. It is not very oily so if you try ramen for the first time in your life and don’t prefer oily broth very much, choosing Kyushu Jangara is recommended. The second option is bonshan, which you can feel deep savor of broth. It is recommended for people who enjoy oily food. Third one is Kobonshan. This includes garlic oil in their soup. The last one is Karabon. Do you like spicy food? Then you should choose this as your broth.

(2) Unasho

Wanna have gorgeous lunch? Try Hitsumabushi! Hitsumabushi is an eel cooked with special sauce. You can have eel with rice. There are mainly three ways to eat hitsumabushi. First, just eat rice and eel. Second, mix eels with other ingredients such as wasabi and eat with rice. third, pour hot tea to the dish and eat this like a soup.

I guess you will love it because the taste here satisfies people from all generations and all over the world. However, as eel is very expensive ingredient in Japan, it’s not very cheap. One bowl of rice with sauced eel cost about JPY 3200(depends on size).

Dinner

Tonkatsu Marugo was introduced by Michelin Guide Tokyo in 2016. It is said that everything becomes delicious if we fry, however, this Tonkatsu restaurant shows different level of Tonkatsu. You will see many people lining in front of this restaurant just to taste how perfect their tender tonkatsu is.

Unlike other franchise Tonkatsu restaurants, Tonkatsu here is a bit pricey. One plate of Tonkatsu costs around JPY 2000 in average. They open from 11:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., however, there is a break between lunch and dinner(3:00 p.m.~5:00 p.m.) Also, they are closed on Mondays and first and third Tuesdays, so be careful to go here!

(2) Gyukatsu ichinisan

If there are the branches of Motomura Gyukatsu in Shibuya and Shinjuku, Akihabara has Gyukatsu ichinisan. Here basically shares same system with other gyukatsu places. You can choose the size of meat and either to have sticky yam or not on your dish. The price will go up if you want to have more options. They are prepared with English menu and guide, so you don’t have to worry about how to order or how to eat.

The space is very narrow so you will have to wait at least 20-30 minutes if you get there in the middle of lunch or dinner time. The price is around JPY 1300 if you choose 130 grams of meat and you can refill rice one time for free. The staff will get your orders while you are lining up so you can have dishes just right after you sit down on the table.
