Before starting this article, I would like to confess that Yokohama is not in Tokyo. Yokohama is located in Kanagawa-ken, and it was one of the first Japanese ports which were opened to foreign trade in 1859. There are amusement park and China town in Yokohama and these kind of attractions made Yokohama popular for both Japanese and foreign tourists. Yokohama is quite close to Tokyo since it takes only about 30-40 minutes from Shibuya station to Yokohama station. Since Yokohama is not such super big city, you can enjoy there for one day trip as well.

Akarenga can be translated as red brick warehouse in English. Akarenga is a historical place where has 100-year-long history of Japanese trade and port. You will see a lot of stores selling unique products inside this building. In addition to this, there is sea near hear so you can enjoy the calm and peaceful atmosphere of sea as well since Yokohama is a port city. This warehouse is a place where you can see interesting items and Japanese traditional souvenirs. Most of the stores have something related to Japan and its tradition. They also have edible(?) souvenirs such as cherry blossom shaped pasta noodle and packed Yokohama curry. (I don’t know why but curry is always famous at port cities in Japan.)

There is a landmark tower in Yokohama and Queen’s Square is connected to there. You can also see beautiful ferris wheel on the way to get to Queen’s Square. Here is a huge complex where includes office buildings, hotels, restaurants, and retail shops. At the first time you get in this building, you will see so many escalators. It’s quite complicated inside this building so you may get lost. Here is not a place for buying souvenirs, however, if you want to buy clothes from brands like H&M, it deserves to visit here.
