You can try a collection of authentic Osaka style takoyaki here at Takoyaki museum. First popularized in Osaka, takoyaki is a hot ball made by flour and a piece of octopus. Dark colored sweet sauce and katsuobushi(slices of dried and smoked fish) is topped on these hot balls. There are many franchise takoyaki stores in Tokyo, however, it deserves to try takoyaki balls here since it is the best chance to honmono(the real one)!

There are mainly 5 stores selling takoyaki and each of them has secret recipes so that you can try similar but different flavored takoyaki. Some places advertise that they put fruits on their dough while other stores boast their crispy takoyaki. There are also places where you can buy takoyaki related souvenirs. It is basically classified as Osaka goods since takoyaki is kind of originated from there. Here you can see a lot of unique items such as takoyaki jelly and octopus soda. You can also find a takoyaki kit so you can try to make takoyaki at your home.

Omuraisu, which can be called as omelette rice in English, is a Japanese fusion dish combined rice and omelette. Japan is famous for adapting Western culture and changing it to their own taste and original. At Pomme no Ki, located inside AQUA CITY, you can try the mixture of Western and Eastern taste. There are variety of options you can choose for sauce and toppings and the most efficient system of this restaurant is that you can choose the size of your dish from SS to L.

One and a half rice bowls are used for SS size so if you don’t want to be very full, it is also good idea to order SS size. If you are super hungry and want to challenge to large amount of food, L size is recommended since 6 eggs and 6 rice bowls are used for L size. There are wide range of menus you can choose from so it is easy for you to hesitate. If you really cannot decide what to eat, just ask staff which one is the most popular one. You can ask it with only one word, “osusume?

Ramen is always correct. Ramen Kokugikan, located in AQUA city, is similar to food court but the difference is they only sell ramen. English menus are prepared since many tourists visit here to enjoy their favorite ramen. The taste of ramen differs from the region in Japan and here is the best place for trying other region’s ramen. Usually Japanese people have their favorite taste about ramen, for example, some people like Sapporo style ramen while others like Hakata(Fukuoka) style.

There are around 6 ramen restaurants in ramen kokugikan mai. Most of the places here have deep and thick taste of their broth. You can also try tsukemen, which is a little bit different from ramen. If ramen has thin noodles and the noodles are already dipped into the broth, tsukemen has comparatively thick noodle and you dip noodle to broth(sauce). Usually tsukemen has very thick taste broth than ramen.

Hamayu is a teppanyaki restaurant located on the top floor of hotel Grand Nikko in Odaiba. The price is quite high as over JPY 10,000 per person since they provide high quality food and seats where you can appreciate night views of Tokyo Bay. From lobsters to Wagyu(Japanese high quality beef), you can try everything related to teppanyaki, which is one type of Japanese cuisine which uses iron griddle to cook food.

The chef will cook your order just in front of you. It will be also nice experience to see how your dish is being made. The chef will explain basic information about your dish such as where in Japan the ingredient came from. Making a reservation in advance is recommended since here is very popular for families and couples. You may ask to the hotel front staff to make a reservation for you.

Hibiki, located on the 6th floor of AQUA city, serves fusion Japanese cuisines in lavish settings. Here is the perfect place to enjoy night view while having some drinks. Their menus are sometimes very unique like putting kanimiso(crab internals in a miso paste) as a sauce on a piece of bread. It may be hard to imagine, but it really tastes good.

The most famous menu here is zarudofu, which is a specialty of Karatsu city’s Kawashima Tofu Store. The more you chew, the more flavor you will feel. Putting a little bit of salt is enough for this amazing tofu. Trying the nature flavor of tofu will give a lot of pleasure to your tongue. There are also other dishes like sashimi and grilled beef. I recommend that it will be also good to try Japanese sake since most of the menus here are somehow related to Japan itself. If you go here at dinner time, it will cost approximately JPY 5000 or more per person.

(3) GONPACHI : TOTAL JAPANESE STYLE IZAKAYA

If you are not interested in fusion style pub, try Gonpachi located in AQUA city. Gonpachi is totally Japanese style izakaya and you feel familar with this type of pub compare to others described above. Gonpachi has several branches in Tokyo and one of them was featured in the move Kill Bill. Even though it’s not Odaiba one, you can feel similar atmosphere of the movie here.

The inside of pub is decorated as traditional Japanese styles and price is quite reasonable. I would not say it’s very cheap, but the menus here are basically affordable. Yakitori is popular menu here. You can find English explanation on the menu so there is no need to be afraid of ordering here. If you want to have meals(well….personally I feel like yakitori is just a snack….) trying soba or oyakodon is recommended.  One person will have to pay JPY 3000~5000 here at Gonpachi.
